The group was provided with information regarding the new Government strategy and the fact that Government had commissioned the YMCA and Centrepoint to develop a shared knowledge input/ information exchange programme to help raise awareness, challenge and alleviate the current problems with youth homelessness. As part of the scheme, the YMCA have been tasked with carrying out work with school-aged children and action motivations that will prevent the prospect of homelessness, they will be available to provide housing advice and assess the needs of children and young people as well as acting as mediators between families. It will also become the responsibility of the organization to set up more temporary lodgings and support schemes. It was explained to the young people that direct actions had primarily been achieved online through a significant database and bank of information developed by the two organizations. The first phase of this project was launched at the end of last year.
