Another major stumbling block to rehabilitation programmes identified by the HCHAC (2004) is the number of transfers between prisons taking place. This has had very severe effects on the rehabilitation programmes that can be provided for prisoners, as continually moving means there is little continuity and low levels of matching services to the relevant prisoners. Prisoners are also often placed in prisons that are a great distance from their home communities which means that reintegration with society at the end of the prison sentence is a greater problem.While the figures discussed so far reflect a birds-eye perspective on rehabilitation in prison, there is a large amount of research that has looked at more specific types of rehabilitation and their effects. This research will be split into two parts, that which examines general methods of treatment that are not specific to a group of prisoners and those which are specific.
